Hi, i'm having trouble finding free software that will convert divx files to mp4. or avi.
I'd appriciate it if someone could recommend one?

    Thanks in advance,

What exactly do you want for the end use of the file? Divx/Xvid is a MPEG-4 and a AVI. MPEG-4 and AVI are just container names, and Divx/Xvid are included in that container, along with H.264 and many others.

Do you have a specific device or codec you want to use?

We would need more information to give you any useful answers.

    And welcome to our forums.

Well, you might need to convert it to some 'flavor' of MPEG-4. You might take a look at some of the 'Portable' tools: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/portable-mobile-psp-ipod

That may give you some suggestions for the format and codec. Really basic, try SUPER as it will convert most files to formats that portable devices can use. But better is to get familiar with the codecs your device uses and the programs that can convert to those codecs. And you might look to our 'Portable Video' Forum for more specific advise.

But DIVX to MP4 is not DVD to MP4. Moving you.
