I have been downloading some LEGAL files that are torrent based. and they are called FLAC files, Although the download isnt at 100%. some tracks appear to be finished, BUT if i load a finished track into AUDACITY and play it, all it sounds like is high pitched noises a bit like listening to data form a computer................, SO does the download have to reach 100% before any of the FLAC files can be played/converted or is the whole download BAD

You have to wait for it to finish. Prior to it finishing, you will have random pieces of the files that are missing.

Does AUDACITY support FLAC files ?
I'm not sure as i don't use audacity.

VLC media player will play FLAC files, otherwise use Trader's Little Helper to extract the WAV files from the FLAC files.

But you prob. should wait until the entire DL is complete.

I don't think audacity supports flac files. Try using flac frontend to convert to wav or download the flac addin to WMP

No, you only need to get that particular file downloaded completely. Some torrent clients like uTorrent even allow for downloading only checked files, you can also specify the priority of file downloads inside a torrent: checking a file's priority as 'high' will (in most cases) garantee it will come first.

The Audacity website says that it doesn't support FLAC at this time, but they hope to support it in the future. Certainly everyone is right that playing a partially downloaded file won't work, but even if the download completes, Audacity still won't be able to play a FLAC file.

Absolutely wrong. Version 1.3.2 can import and export FLAC, you can even edit them inside the program like any other format. I do it all the time now.
