  1. Hello everyone
First time posting here after reading for a bit, and searching the forums.

I am happy to be a the owner of a brand new DVD recorder described in the title, but there is however some small issues i cant seem to figure out.

I would like to be able to put some of my previously recorded tv shows on my HDD recorders hard disc, but i cant seem to be able to get the player to read anything of the usb device.
At first i thought about formatting problem on the LaCie 250GB mass storage USB 2.0, but after reformatting it to FAT32 i realized that there must be more problems here.
I then researched some on the web, and determined that this partucular DVD Recorder has a so called USB 1.1, or USB PLUS ???? connector.

So far i have been unable to determine what type of storage device i can use to move stuff from my pc to my dvd recorder, and using DVD(-+)RW is not really the most effective way in my humble opinion.

I would appreciate any help in figuring out what type of device that can be used for this operation.

I do realize that i most likely would have to be some sort of USB 1.1 device, but i strikes me as pretty rediculus if a brand new dvd recorder did not support mass storage. However i am not even sure if there is any way of getting any USB 1.1 storage devices capabel of moving larger amounts of data.

Can anyone give shed some light to this so i wont have to buy 76 different USB devices in a trial and error process

    Thanks in advance

USB 2.0 shouldn't be a problem. Most 2.0 devices are backward compatible. **Note that I said shouldn't.

It's also possible that the problem is the size. Maybe it cannot recognize a 250GB HDD.

EDIT: It appears that this unit does not playback directly from a USB drive. You must first copy/dub the file(s) from the USB drive to the internal HDD.

USB 2.0 can downgrade itself to 1.1 speeds automatically and is 100% compatible with USB 1.1. That's not your problem.

FAT32 is a horrible file system and has serious limitations. That could be part of the problem. There is a gigantic thread in the DVD Players section that has multi-hundreds of posts about USB compatibility with a specific Philips DVD player and as best I remember there didn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason as to why some devices worked OK and others did not on the player.

Until manufacturers are willing to support USB 2.0 and NTFS file systems on external devices, I don't see how this is a very useful "feature". USB 1.1 and FAT32 are bad requirements for external access.
