The way to use Nero 6 to make a CD with photos on it that will play on a DVD player is a real mystery. I've been able to do it on occasion, but the time between the last time I did it successfully and now appears to be too great to recall what I actually did.

I've just spent an hour trying to get it right. I've tried several ways, yet still cannot duplicate my erratically successful ways of the past. VCD, SVCD and video CDs. I seem to end up with the same structure on the CDs that I have with successfully produced CDs that play like what I would expect.

In all cases, I see dat files which seem to contain the slide images. Further, in the production dialogs when I test the presence of the images with the hand controller image, all seems well. The final product shows a button with an icon and below it a title. However, it doesn't seem possible to activate the button to start the slide show. The test DVD is the same in all cases. What's up with this?

I can't follow what you are are actually doing.

Are you creating a VCD, SVCD or DVD ?

VCDs use the numbers on the remote to start a title, not the enter key (at least, none of the 20 or so standalone players I have used have ever used the enter key).

I don't know about SVCD - it always seemed a useless format. To short for movies, and not enough players supported it.

What I think I was saying is that I've tried several formats, and none of them seem to work. However, I have at times gotten something to work.

Yes, I see a number under the button, but have no idea how to activate it with the hand controller. However, on a few DVDs that work, they just fire up and start showing an image every 4 seconds.

A DVD that does work starts by pressing Play. I haven't been able to get any menu or title from it. When I do press Play, momentarily a blue fwd button appears with Video CD and PBC on the icon. It then begins to cycle through the CD.

A DVD that doesn't work, begins when I press Play. It shows an icon of the first slide. A button I guess. Right below it, it shows Title 1. Pressing the Down arrow on the controller shows "Operation Not Possible" (ONP). Pressing Enter does nothing. Pressing Play or Scan does nothing. Pressing Next produces ONP. Pressing Menu or Top Menu produces ONP. Pressing Display produces a screen of icons that have to do with Index, Shuffle, Repeat, Scene [ 1( 9)]... I have no idea what 1 and 9 mean. There's also the "Video CD PBC" in the upper right. I get nowhere with that screen. Lots of ONPs I'm quite sure there are several dat files on the CD.

Another wayward similar CD does the same.

I just put the working CD back in and the "1 ( 9)" starts as "1 ( 88)" and the 1 steps ahead by 1 as each scene is displayed. It appears these wayward CDs do not know there's more than 1 image, which appears to subtitute for the button.

    Back to more experimenting.

Gads. I hit the Reply instead of Preview. It's the paren after the 8 that turns 8 8 ) into a smiley. Anyway, it's 88 close paren and not 8 with a smiley. It may be that there are 88 slides on the CD, but I don't know at the moment.
