Hi everybody!
I am using the program SUPER to convert flv. to avi. or mpeg., and I had trouble figuring out how to use it, and then I found these instructions online:
And I came across a problem. I couldn't drag the file into that gray box mentioned in set two of the above instructions. Can someone tell me what is wrong?1) Set the "output container" in the top left corner to whatever format you are trying to convert to.
2) Drag and drop the file you are trying to convert into the gray box toward the bottom of the window.
3) Right click the "output" box (outlined in red), then click on "output file management" to select where you would like the converted video to be saved. I believe it will send it to My Videos by default.
Basically I got capture a video from YouTube (of one of my friend performing), and it got saved into my laptop as get_video. I can play it on VLC player, but I would like to convert it to avi. or mpeg.
Thanks in advance!

Try renaming the file to "get_video.flv"
When you download a file from youtube the file extension is usually missing. SUPER might not be able to tell what type of file it is. You can try giving a little more info on why it won't let you drop it. Does it give you an error message? Doesn't allow it? Doesn't convert? What's going on? -
Firstly, thank you Vegito72 for replying.
I did as you told me, I added the extension .flv at the end, but it still doesn't allow me to drop that file in.
It's not giving me an error message. The problem is, I can't seem to drop it in. I mean, when I tried to drag that file from my desktop onto the gray box area, the arrow cursor is there when I bring that file to drop into the box, but as soon as I let go of the mouse, I see nothing in the box. Do you know what I mean?
Oh, I use windows vista, is that a problem or something?
Here's a screen shot:

The arrow I drew is showing how I am dragging it in. When I bring the mouse arrow cursor on top of the gray box, the arrow cursor is there with a plus sign box, but when I let go of the mouse, the file isn't in the box. You know what I mean, right? -
SUPER under Vista is a bit hit and miss at the moment. First thing is to right-click on the SUPER icon and select Compatibility (I think, you make have to check the tabs) and tick the box marked Run as Administrator. This should solve your drag and drop problem. If it doesn't, try right-clicking and selecting Add Multimedia Files from the menu.
Secondly, SUPER will only convert some flv files on it's own. If you find it fails with yours, install the latest FFDShow, and tick the DirectShow box on SUPER before Encoding.Read my blog here.

If you end up not being able to convert it even with Guns1inger's help you might be able to try demuxing the file with FLV Extract.
https://www.videohelp.com/tools/FLV_Extract
Then use VirtualDudMod to convert it into divx/xvid
https://www.videohelp.com/tools/VirtualdubMOD
Of course you'll need ffdshow installed and configured to decode flv1
https://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffdshow
Only problem is, I'm not sure whether these files run under Vista.
If worse comes to worse, just send me the link, and I'll do it for you.
Good luck. -
FLV Extract works under Vista. Just drag the flv on its window and it'll split it.
The Vdubmod procedure above works fine under Vista. I've used it on youtubes. FLV Extract splits the video and audio files, so after you open the video avi in Vdubmod you'll need to add the mp3 audio back to it.
The Divx 6.7 Pro codec works well for encoding (I've used it with Vdubmod and AutoGK). No problems so far, anyway. I hear the other parts of the Divx package (the Converter, Player, and WebPlayer) still have some problems, but I don't use those. But Xvid is just as good, and it's free. -
guns1inger: Wow, I was able to add that file into the gray box by following your procedure! But when I tried to encode it, I kept getting error messages when I chose DIVX, DX50, XVID, and MP4V on the Rendered file optimizer dialog box. However, the FMP4 option worked fine. But for some reason, when I tried to encode another video after encoding a video, using FMP4 also gave me an error message. When I restarted the program, it worked again though. May be it's just the weird vista. The video and sound quality were great, just like how it is on YouTube. Thank you so much!!!
One very last question (hopefully), would it matter what Rendered file optimizer I use? I only got FMP4 to work for me, so I am just wondering if the other options come with an advantage or if they are all the same.
And thanks Vegito72 and Squash for suggesting an alternate method. That worked too, though I kinda got lost using the Vdubmod to join the video and audio split components together. >.< But I finally got it to work with another method, all thanks to you three! I really cannot appreciate your help you guys! Thank you VERY much!!
