I'm looking to buy a 40-46 inch LCD TV, mostly looking at Samsung, Sharp or Sceptre. I've been watching since June and have seen some good deals, and I'm not looking to spend more than $1500. I was waiting till Black Friday to see if any good deals come out then. Does anybody know if waiting till then will do anything to prices? I know Black Friday has good deals but I've never paid attention to large screen TVs during that time. For anybody who has worked in retail for a while, whats a good time of the year to buy such a TV? Thanks!

My advice to you regarding Black Friday is, it all depends on where you live. If around a large city, go very early. Get in line by early afternoon or even earlier on THURSDAY. If you don't get a good spot in line, just walk away. I've been burned too many times. Some chains like Best Buy and Circuit City pass out vouchers starting from the front of the line on Friday morning, which is why I said that if you don't get a good spot in line, just leave. You may also want to drive to a store in a smaller town. Last year I had a decent spot in line, but when the doors opened, there was a mad rush for the doors, most of which came from people not even in line who had just gotten there. I walked away empty handed. Too me, it's just not worth it. I'm done with Black Friday.

In general LCD-TV sets get cheaper the longer you wait. There are advantages to waiting for a current year model over a last year closeout because technology has improved dramatically in the last year for panel contrast, processing chips, more HDMI inputs and tuner features/performace (e.g. cable QAM tuning).

The new Samsungs have been recently introduced so prices are still relatively high. New Sony's are just now hitting the stores and prices will remain high for a few months. I'm not sure when the Sharps come out.

Economic conditions are pointing to larger than normal discounting this Christmas season. Shop price wisely.

Best times to buy are one month before christmas or about 3-4 months after.
