    Hi

I'm vaguely aware of a problem when it comes to completely filling a DVDR disc.

My DVD recorder, for example, makes a burnt disc very unstable between subsequent players if it is allowed to completely fill the media. Problems range from the fully burnt disc always leaping forwards at the start by around 25 seconds on some of my DVD players, to not playing at all on other DVD players, to not even being recognised by DVD Shrink (DVD Decrypter manages no problem however).

I had put this down to my old DVD recorder just being a bit cheap and getting on a bit, and have managed to work around it. I've found that if I stop the recording with only a few seconds or even minutes left on the disc, somethimes I do still have playback issues... but if I stop a 2 hour recording at around 2 hours (bearing in mind that discs will actually run on to around 2hrs 4minutes) the DVDs are usually fine.

But I've noticed through forums like this that 'capacity' can be an issue for everyone, not just me and my old DVD recorder. Perhaps someone could basically describe how disk-filling can affect results?

My main question is regarding ConvertXtoDVD:-

I have been examining some recent log files, and see capacities anything from 50% to 99.80%. I have checked the burns of those percentages in the high 90s on my more frail DVD players, and there are no problems with playback of these very nearly full discs.

Perhaps if I could find out the risks involved with filling to near capacity, and if the same problems might apply to my ConvertX DVDs as they do with my old DVD recorder, I might want to reduce the total capacity of my conversions in this program (I see you can enter a custom value).

If I reduce the total size available in DVD5 from 4400mb to, say, 4300mb, what does that actually do to my encoded file? Naturally it will compress it more should the total size in built folder want to be more than 4300mb, but in what respect would it compress and would such a difference be really noticable?

I'm sure someone on here mentioned they reduce their total size in built folder a little while ago, I'd just like some more info if anyone has it.

    Thanks !

Playback issues (towards the end of the program...ie. edge of the disc) on media that is "full" are typically the result of cheap/low quality media and/or burning issues (bad hardware).

Assuming you are using the same media in your examples above, it would appear your dvd recorder is having hardware burning issues or doesn't like the media you are using. Especially since the discs burned on your pc seem to be completely fine.

Stick with name brand media (Verbatim or TY) for best results.
