I "upgraded" to Vista 64 bit without thinking about the VIVO port on my Geforce 7800... am I out of luck? What capture card is supported? I just found a treasure chest of VHS tapes begging to be youtube'd

Vista has a narrow list of MCE supported cards. Short of that. You need to talk to the company that supports your card and ask if they have a new Vista driver.

I can do it with my Canopus ADVC-100 through Vegas and even an older version of Premiere but not with WinDV. I read that my Hauppauge HVR-1600 will capture with MCE and also with included WinTV software but I haven't moved it over from the XP machine. I also read that I can forget using an ATI Pro-550 or older All-In-Wonder card with Vista. There is a full list of MCE supported cards but I'm not a fan of MCE.

You really need to look at the card manufacturer site and user reviews to see if it works under Vista.

With ATI card you will need an 9600 or higher card.

By the way, I use WinDV in Vista x64 Ultimate to capture from my PYRO A /V Link.

Interesting. WinDV isn't detecting any IEEE-1394 ports (32bit Vista Ultimate) but Movie Maker, Vegas and Ensoft DV Processor see the ports and capture normally. Maybe I should reinstall WinDV.

  7. I have an ATI THEATER™ 550 PRO card that I am using with Vsta 64. MCE (which I hate!) does not seem to let me switch this card to the AV inputs, it only goes to the tuner.
Fortunately I have not had any need to really capture anything recently on that system but it is damned annoying

ChrisTV looks promising as a solution.

ATI hasn't offered Vista drivers for the 550 but they have for the 650.

They are bundled with the 650 drivers:

Though I have to say that I have no idea what the updates actual change/fix/or otherwise.

    Ahh yesterday 9-10-07!
But that says 64 bit. I'll try them with Vista if they have 32bit.

Actually, they have been updating them pretty regularly, at least once a month since March for Vista 64. Not sure about the 32 bit version. Honestly though I haven't installed an ATi update since June, maybe I should to see if I'm missing out on anything

I still think that it is MCE that limits the ability to activate the card's S-Video or Composite Video inputs. Shame there is no MMC from ATi for these cards

I recall there was at least one MMC that worked with the 550 under XP but I switched to BeyondTV on that machine.

  13. Does Beyond TV work with Vista (64)? How is it as a capture program?

    I doubt for 64.

BeyondTV is a PVR program but can access the analog inputs. I use it with XP only.
