Am I doing something wrong (or does YouTube suck?)

Can someone explain to me why a video I'm uploading to YouTube is coming out like garbage, but when I view it on my computer it looks great? I'm following their guidelines of 30fps MPEG-4, but still looks atrocious.

I uploaded the same video to BrightCove, and while it obviously doesn't look as good as the original, it's still MUCH closer to the original.

How do I get my YouTube videos to look much better?

Youtube reprocesses it. Notice that is says 'processing'? Also, next up they are going to slap ads on them. Oh brother. sigh.

I wondered about this the other day when an ad came on first...perfect. youTube is making me look like a genius. I wonder how long it will be 'till they remove a few million copyrighted videos?
