  1. I am using Nero Recode (V2.5.5.0) to backup my movies from DVD-9 to DVD-5.

I always choose the "Fit to Target" and "DVD-5" opitons, but when I put in a blank DVD, sometimes I iwll get the error " There is not enough space to burn this compilation to this disc....."

I always use Verbatim DVD+R. Is this a bug with Nero Recode?

No. Nero Recode is basically a re-write of DVD Shrink, which is a transcoder. It reduces the size of the content not be re-encoding, but by looking for data that is already there that you might not miss. Sometimes there simply isn't enough of this data to make the disc small enough.

This leaves you with three choices

    1. Remove something you don't need. Many movies will fit with little or no reduction is you throw away extras, languages and menus, and keep just the main movie and a single language.

    2. Backup the results to your HDD instead of a DVD, then load this into ReCode and compress again. This time it should fit, however quality is likely to take a big hit.

    3. Use a different program that takes a different approach. DVD Rebuilder is arguably the best option. It will re-encode instead of transcode, it will fit on the first pass, and it will usually produce much better quality results. It will, however, take a lot longer. If you want all of the disc contents and want to keep some semblance of quality then this is the option to pick.

  3. When I choose the "Fit to Target" and "DVD-5", the movie is compressed to usually 60-70%. I usually leave just English soundtrack and no subtitle. This usually works but occasionally, I get this error.

Like I said, occasionally a movie simply cannot be crushed enough in a single pass. It's not a bug, just a short-coming of the transcoding process.
