    Hi

I have not seen another post about it, sorry if it exists.

Well, I have a big trouble converting an mkv file to avi. I do it this way: I write a avs script like this "DirectShowSource("file.mkv", fps=23976,audio=false)" and the resize filter to convert it to 720x400 keeping the aspect ratio. I open it with Virtualdub and, 'til here, no problem.
Then I configure the 2 passes, incluiding a hardsubbed subtitles and when I order to virtual encode both passes then it says:
"Ooopss, virtualdub has crashed" and says something like "memory out of bounds" and nothing else. I have read a bit about this and other says that are problem from the codec and it says "...something.dll" that refers to the xvid (or divx) codec. But in my case, it does not say anything else...

Anybody has idea how to sort this out? Or why this happens?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Tried do one pass encoding?

Or try avidemux, freemake video converter or xvid4psp. All can hardsub.

    Hi
    Thanks for the answer.
Yes, I tried to do it just one pass: same

I have not tried all this stuff, but I do not have much faith in this "super-mega-converter-all-inputs-all-outputs", I think does not work "professional" I've seen mencode, but I have not tried with it (I'll do it tonight).

About the suposed "memory out of bounds", has it happened to someone else? Any idea?

    Thanks again.

Can you post the exact script you are using?

    Sure. Just this:

    DirectShowSource("file.mkv",fps=23976,audio=false)
    LanczosResize(720,400,0,0.75)

    That's all.
I have to say that "file.mkv" is a tv episode in hd (1280x720) downloaded "somewhere"

I have noticed that if I split a part of, say 50Mb, of it, the error does not come and the computer starts encoding. But then the estimated finishing time is 48h:12m:45s more or less wich is a mess. It shouldn't have to take more than 10-15 min at a 20fps rate of enconding.

I have unistalled everything that has anything to do with video like xvid codec, cccp codec pack, mkv toolnix, matroska splitter and core codec that I had installed (I think I have not forget anything else).

I'll try again to encode the splitted part to see what happens (that will be when I arrive home)

    Thanks.

Is that really your script or just a typo? I notice you had the same in your first post.
It should of course be fps=23.976.
If DirectShowSource really is multiplying the framerate by 1000, you might very well hit a memory limit.

    Hi

Well, I don't know if it has been the unistalled software or the f*cking point in "23.976", but now it seems to work. I'll do some more tests and let you know.

    Many thanks to everybody
