I've got some avi's (divx5) that I need to cut and crop and then create a dvd.
Is there a tool available that will allow me to first cut, then crop and finally, create a dvd (at a resolution of my choice) .
I'd love to just make the inital settings and go to bed then collect my dvd in the morning.
cheers

No, not simply. You can't make a DVD at the resolution of your choice - you have to make it a DVD compliant resolution.
FAVC can do most of what you want, if you are happy to write some avisynth script to do the cropping then you can set this going over night. I don't know if you can use the trim statement in FAVC to edit your clips as well - you may have to do this up front.Read my blog here.

How about two different but reliable softwares?
One to crop and trim the avi (preferbly one that allows re-sizing) and the other to convert and burn that file to dvd ?

You could use avisynth and create a script that does all your trimming, cropping and appending, then encode and create your DVD from that.
Otherwise, virtualdub or avi demux for your trimming/cropping/editing needs, then to join them (if that is what you want) after they are all the same.
From there, FAVC or DVD Flick to encode and author a DVD.
All free.Read my blog here.
