  1. Hello!

I'm looking for an utility which can help me inspect a DVD-Video disc (or files on hard drive in that format) prior to processing.
I would like it to present information such as Region Codes, encryption methods, anamorphosis etc. Basically, the more-the better

    I hope it exists.

    Thanks!

Once you rip a DVD to a hard disk there is no more encryption.

IFOEdit can be used to see if the DVD has 16:9 or 4:3 video.

    Doesn't matter.
A disc you burn yourself contains no region code.

You can however assign a DVD any region code you want with DVDShrink(among others).
I can create a region coded disc with any region from 1 through 6...it still doesn't change
the most important thing....the video format(PAL - NTSC).

  6. You're all telling me things I already know.

    Doesn't matter.
Well, it does matter to me.

    I'm gonna look into IfoEdit.

Just read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code Much easier to follow the advice given in post#5 if you need to change/remove the region code.

Read the whole article. The information is there. If you can't be bothered to do that much on you own, good luck using it.

  10. Okay, I will read that, no problem. You could've quoted, though.

    I assume you mean this:
"Where on the disc is this information located?"
    and not this:
"Where in this article is the information about region codes located?"

Wikipedia isn't going to tell you the exact location on the disc where this information is stored. I do not understand why this is so important to you and I also don't know if anyone here even knows this information. If you just cannot live without knowing exactly where region coding is on a disc you could try to talk to the author of ImgBurn and maybe if it is not too complicated he will tell you. All we care about is that there are ripping tools that can remove region codes. We don't care anything about how those codes are made. We just want to know how to get rid of them.

The exact location on the disc is given in that article. I guess you didn't bother taking 1 minute to skim it either. Just looking at the section headers is enough. The relevant section to read is pretty obvious.

Not so much, my friend. Was is it so hard to include it in your message and spare the effort for everybody (well, for me at least)?

Okay. The reason for the whole confusion is this unfortunate reply:

They do not have RCs if you remove them, possibly by using some ripping software.

This reply made me think that RC was stored in some special restricted area on the disc. That's why I was concerned and asked for a location.

jman98, at least you understand me, thank you.

And.....the only way to get a Hollywood(professionally pressed) DVD to your hard drive is to use ripping software that circumvents the copy protection and removes the region code as an extra bonus.
    So what is your point?

  15. My point is you should pay more attention to what you're saying.

And BTW not every Hollywood movie is copy protected, so again you talk gibberish.

    .
One minute of your time to read the section headers is too much effort, eh? ...and in my opinion, the word "Circumvention" is an obvious clue.

  17. Anyway, tips for applications able to show features of DVD-Video are still welcome.
