I have an idx and sub file.I have converted it to a srt file.The subs are 5 seconds behind though all the way through.Can some one point me to an easy to follow guide to rectify the problem.

Open the SRT in SubtitleCreator. Go Synchronize->Set Time Delay. After you get it right, go File->Save SRT (or Save SRT As).

While it's not obvious how to use all its functions by just opening it, if you read its docs, they're quite easy to follow. -
Those are different software for different purposes.
Vobsub is DirectShow subtitle filter for software video players.
ffdshow is a DirectShow decoding filter which has subtitle features.
If you need a player with excellent subtitle support and built-in filters, use KMPlayer and you would not need neither Vobsub nor ffdshow. -
Try to check source and target file
you may use this tool : SetMismatchSUB or substructurecopy
