Converting VOB to dv questions

I am trying to convert a 16:9 Widescreen VOB file to dv and I am having some problems.

1. ffmpegX doesn't seem to convert to 720x480 without squashing the 16:9.
So I get a squashed letterbox image.

2. no matter what I do I only get the spanish audio ouput.
I changed the audio track selection several times but still only get spanish audio.
When I select play on the ffmpegX interface it plays in English, when I select Preview it is in Spanish.
and it does not change no matter which audio track I select.

Can someone help me out here?

I am on an Intel Mac. Don't know if that makes a difference.

It would help considerably if you filled in your computer details. I'm guessing you have a Mac OS, since you mention ffmpegX. And if you are using a Mac or ffmpegX, we have separate forums for each, where you would likely get more answers.
