  1. I want to get home hi 8 to dvd that will play on my pioneer 333. Want the cheapest dvd-r media that should work with the pioneer dvdr A03. Will the $2.95 media work. Can't seem to find a straight answer.

  2. If the DVD-R media is made to decent standards by a reputable company then yes, it should work fine. However, I'm sure there will be very cheap and badly made discs that wont. Why not order just a few, or call the company and ask for a sample to try.

I have used branded media from Mitsui, Pioneer, TDK and Panasonic with no problems. I have also used unbranded media made by fwslltd.com and not had a problem.

  3. I have used Meritline DVDrs and they worked fine.

  4. The unbranded media I used burned at 2x quite happily. Originally all media burned at 1x, but once the firmware of the drive was upgraded, all DVD-R media I have tried burn at 2x quite happily.

That is interesting. My firmware is 1.65 (latest) and the unbranded burn at 1X ~1.35MB/sec & Pioneer ... at 2X ~2.7MB/sec.

  6. I've only used some unbanded media from fwsltd.com and some bought from a local store which don't have any markings on them. They did seem to be quite high quality though. I can't vouch for Meritline media as I don't think they are available in the UK (I could be wrong though).
