For some reason my DVD player (Philips which can play DivX) shows only 2 out of 3 files on DVD-R in its root directory. I've recorded the files onto DVD as the data. When I look at the disc on the computer it shows all 3 files.

This happened to me with 2 different discs. I've recorded the files onto DVD using Nero. The only thing I can think of is that I've done it as the multisession, i.e. I've recorded 2 files first and later I've recorded the third file.

Is there a way to fix it?

Try checking the third (missing file) with gspot. Could be something is different/wrong with that file.

I think this is your problem, try recording all 3 files with disk at once and see it that works.

From what I remember , you had to import last session (previous session) , then add content , in order to keep using the same disc all the time , and for all files to show up .

When it gets close to full , you finalize the disc for good .

You can try Bjs' suggestion and maybe it will work but a better idea is not to burn until you have enough to fill up the disc. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER burn a multisession disc if you care at all about a standalone device of any kind being able to play everything on it. Standalone devices almost never recognize anything beyond the first session of a multisession disc.

I forgot to add that in addition to only burning once, you should burn in Disc-At-Once mode rather than Track-At-Once mode for best results with standalone devices, assuming you are using a burning method that gives you such a choice. This is selectable under Nero when using Nero Burning ROM and not the easy, GUI driven Nero Express.
