It seems that my post has been lost in the recent board downtime, so I'll repost it again with some new info.
I am having problems moving my MPEG2 compressed homevideos back to the digital camera through Firewire. First problem is that Premier cannot open these files, even though I used Premier to make them (converted from DV). I can open the files though if I convert them to the MPEG1.
Now comes the second problem. When I try to "print to tape", the Premier would start the recording process on the camera, but the camera says "No signal". The movie is played back on PC screen during that time. I figured out that if I use a video in DV format, then it works.
So, it seems like I have to convert my MPEG2s to DV. That's another problem, I cannot open the MPEG2 files (as I mentioned above), so I have to spend time converting it first to MPEG1. However when I try to encode MPEG1 to DV, Premier estimates that it would take about 10 minutes of conversion time per 1 min video (which I consider to be pretty slow for my 1.4 gig Athlon), and it never finishes - it always crashes around 20-30 seconds into the video stream (about 5 minutes of encoding).
Does anyone know a program to convert MPEG2s easily to DV?
Please help me on any one of the problems, I would greatly appretiate this.
Thanks in advance,
Yegor

Seems to me that your firewire ports are screwed or there is some setting in premiere that you are not using right. Are you using a separate firewire card or is it integrated in your motherboard?

I have a separate FireWire card, which works just fine on capture. As for Premier - there is really not much you can tweak in terms of exporting to tape. There are some options to start recording earlier than playing, but that's about it. Overall Premier and my computer are pretty stable, but it always crashes during converting MPEG1 to Microsoft DV.
