Hi, I'm looking for a decent player that can plays DVDs in both Region 1 and 2 and the PAL/NSTC formats on a CRT NTSC TV. While looking for something I came across this player at http://www.220-electronics.com/ it's the International Silver Code Free DVD player for $69, is this player any good? They don't give a brand name for it, can anyone tell me anything about it? if it's no good can you recommended a decent player that is inexpensive and does the things I described?

If you can't find out what brand it is, I would pass on it. There are plenty of converted DVD players out there with well known brand names, which would seem a much better choice.

Another company with similar products is: http://www.world-import.com/dvd.htm

Send them an email thru their site and ask. I found them fast and informative in their responces.
220 has a pretty good rep for an online company.

Most of the Philips line of players, including the ubiquitous DVP-642, will play region-free and have no problem with PAL as well as NTSC. Plus, it is easy to fix the region-coding limitation for discs; AnyDvd, DVD-FAB Decrypter, etc. will all do that.

Additionally about Philips, if you find a model you like, look it up first before buying via an internet search engine and you can probably find the code for the remote control to put it in region free mode. While I can't personally say that all Philips models can be put into region free mode, the ones I've dealt with have all been able to do this.
