    Hello,

I have a large video file about 4 gigs and I need to split into 700 MB files. What is the best (personal recommended) software to use?

With AVI, VirtualDub works very well for me. Use 'Direct stream copy'. With VD, I use the 'Key' icon to move to the nearest keyframe and do the split there. The newest versions can split about anywhere, then only re-encode the affected frames. Some codecs, Xvid for example, only have keyframes ever 300 frames by default. That's one reason it's a poor choice for editing. Watch out for MP3 VBR audio also when splitting as it can cause sync problems, especially when converting from AVI type formats to MPEG.

With MPEG, I use MPEG-VCR, but with either format, there are other alternatives.
