Usb is for usb streaming capture from sony ... use the product that came on cd with camera to capture it to drive , and remove any other usb / firewire devices first , or bsod may occur .

And follow the precautions on how to connect the camera to pc ... correctly , or risk damage to camera and / or pc .

Unless you are satisfied with low quality video, (Generally 'For the Web' quality) you really need a FireWire (I-link) PCI card to get the best results from that camera. If you have a FW card, you can use Windows Movie Maker or just a transfer program like WinDV to get exactly the same quality that's on the DV tape to your hard drive.

For USB transfers, the camera should have included some software, or you may be able to get it from Sony. You can also get a operating manual, if needed, from Sony, in several languages: http://www.sony-europe.com/
