I own a Proscan DVD player (which won't play my VCD's) and there are no known hacks for it (to change region or disable the so called Macrovision, anyway.) So, I was wondering if by altering the region code on a stand-alone DVD player you can actually play VCD's on virtually ANY DVD player? For instance, change the region code to Asia? I know it's a pretty stupid question but I had to ask.
Thanks!
PS If you know how to disable Macrovision on a Proscan DVD player let me know!

Um... VCDs don't have region codes and don't have Macrovision.
The most likely reason that your player isn't playing VCDs is because it can't read CD-R/W media.
Usually you will still be able to find a brand that works but you will have to experiment. CD-RW often works better in these cases.

Einstein is right. You should be able to play commercially produced VCDs on your DVD player, no matter which region your player is set to, since VCDs are not region coded or macrovision protected (unlike DVDs).
Unlocking a DVD player does not do anything for playing VCDs, it lets you play DVDs from other regions that s all. -

DVDfReAk,
vitualis is one of the few who knows exactly what he's talking about. You'd do well to show a little respect.
Region codes mean squat to a VCD disk. However, there is a difference in how laser light is reflected on factory pressed VCD's, CD-RW VCDs, and CD-R VCDs. Some DVD players will only read factory pressed VCDs, while others can recognize both pressed and CD-RW disks. Sometimes the brand of CD-RW can make a difference as well.
Most newer DVD players use either special optics or dual lasers to read pressed, CD-RW, and CD-R disks.
Your question wasn't stupid, but your response to vitualis was.

DVDfReAk, I found a solution for you..and only you.. I dont want any other forum members doing this without my permission!
1. unplug your dvd..
2. take the top plate off of it.
3. pull out everything you can.. cut the wires, etc and remove them..
the reason your dvd player wont read vcds is that it is too heavy..
Also after you finish.. delete the url to vcdhelp.com and this trick will speed up your encoding time on your computer.. unplug it.. take it to the bathtub, leave it soaking in water for at least 4 hours.. then while it is still wet, turn it on to help dry it out.. computers tend to get dirty and this keeps them all shiny like when they were new..
good luck!
AND AGAIN....dont other forum members do this without asking my permission! -
lol..
I would agree with whats posted above though..try cdrw.. and test some of the valid samples here under downloads..and try them.. -
I did that and my vcd player/recorder won't play anymore! I'm sueing you!!!
Hey DVDfReAk,
You can't sue Jasond 'cause he adviced you to do it with your DVD, but you did it to your VCD player/recorder at your own risk. Sorry!!!
