    Hi Folks,

I do realize this topic is discussed in detail on this forum, and I am searching, but I would appreciate some help as I have a client that is on my back with a deadline.

I have a client that sends me video clips on DVD (In DVD format, so they are vob files.), and they ask me to assemble the clips onto another DVD, with a nice menu, and sometimes there is some editing involved. The reauthoring process that I have been using seems to work pretty well, but as I get more DVD's from different authors, I seem to be having some trouble with audio sync on some clips, and sometimes choppiness or quality loss with the video.

    Here is my process:

    1) Copy Vob files to hard drive, then using Virtualdubmod 1.5.10.2 (build 2540), I decode the vob files to Huffy 2.1.1.

    2) Bring Huffy avi files into Vegas 7, edit/trim as necessary.

    3) Render/export the video as mpeg2 elementary stream best quality. (.m2v) progressive (Progressive seems to help with choppy video) 6,000,000 bitrate.

    4) Render/export audio as .ac3 format, default settings, though recently I have experimented with the stereo DVD format.

    5) Import assets into Adobe Encore, build DVD image (Iso file.) No re-encoding is done in Encore.

    6) Burn DVD with Nero 7, using high-quality Taiyo-Yuden DVD+R discs. I currently am using the NEC/Optiarc AD-7170a, Nec is my preferred burner.

Any help with streamlining or improving this process would be much appreciated. I need to be able to use custom menus, and I am accustomed to the Encore-->Photoshop process. I am open to software suggestions, tweaks to my settings, anything you can offer. In the meantime, I will continue searching this forum and the guides.

    Thanks,

    oohah

Get Womble Mpeg Wizard or VideoRedo and you wont have to re-encode to Huffyuv and back again. You can do your edits in Womble without re-encoding. You can also demux from here to use in Encore.

If you don't need to edit stuff, and just want to re-author adding menus, you can maybe use pgcdemux to extract these "clips" by pgc. They will already be in elementary streams for you to import as assets into your authoring program. Which in that case you would use step 1 for pgcdemux. Then go straight to step 5 for the re-authoring.
