I recorded a school play on a Sony Hi-8 camcorder and later transferred that video onto a DVD using an ilo DVDR05 recorder. I would like to duplicate the DVD on the computer, but the computer does not consistently recognize files on the DVD. I believe if I can get past this I can use the tools I have to complete the duplication.

Could be the mode you are using on the recorder. Most recorders have to modes: VR mode and video mode. For best compatibility use video mode, it creates dvd's that meet dvd spec (with video_ts folders).

Since I wasn't familiar with VR/Video mode, I did some research so I'd understand, and then researched the ilo DVDR05 I own. As far as I can tell, I cannot alter the mode for recording. I own an MU1 model.
Any suggestions? -
Dont bother ... but it would be the first that couldnt go from vr to video ... that just be plain nutts .
Ok , just grab mpeg streamclip from www.squared5.com/ , and away you go ... youve got it covered .
Just watch the media you use in the unit , and stick with the rules on compatability when burning media on pc .
