    Today my computer kept on rebooting for some reason. It just started today all of a sudden, I ran a spyware and virus scan using Spybot, Ad-aware, and eTrust Antivirus (there was no virus found). And I checked my event logs, I found out it's due to an error on my eTrust EZ Armor's TrueVector Service. Here are the error logs:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v117/Yakusoya/Image2.jpg

    I went into Administrative Tools and disabled its startup. I also changed the options saying that if it TrueVector failed, it should automatically restart the service. And in the System Startup & Recovery menu, I disabled "automatically reboot" when there is a system failure.

    For right now, it has not rebooted or frozen and I think while TrueVector is disabled, my computer is vulnerable (even though the firewall appears to still be running)? Is there a solution to remove this error? Should I uninstall it altogether and get that free AVG firewall?

    Thanks for any help!

    If the TrueVector service is not running then the firewall is not working.
    I'm not sure, but it looks to me like those alerts indicate that TrueVector discovered corruption in a couple database files. I don't know what those databases are but they may be necessary files for TrueVector's reference.

    I believe those are TrueVector's database files and are related to the EZ Armor program. I'm also behind a router so I guess that would help even if my firewall is not on? I did a search for help on EZ Armor's web site and the closest solution is this, which I haven't tried yet and not sure if I should as it completely resets the firewall settings:

    If you continue to experience difficulty, the issue may be a problem with TrueVector or its database files. You can use the steps found just below to do this. Note - You will lose all customizations in EZ Firewall.

    1. Open EZ Firewall, Go to Overview then click the Preferences tab and uncheck the Load at Startup option.
    2. Reboot into Safe Mode. For instructions on how to boot in Safe Mode, click here.
    3. Browse to the Internet Logs directory. This directory should be found in one of the following:

    * C:\Windows\Internet Logs
    * C:\WinNT\Internet Logs

    4. Delete all files found within this folder
    5. Empty the recycle bin.
    6. Reboot Windows normally.
    7. Restart EZ Firewall manually (by going to Start > Programs > eTrust EZ Armor > eTrust EZ Firewall, then selecting EZ Firewall).
    8. Go back into Overview > Preferences and check the Load at Startup option.

    If those are the TrueVector database files (like we both suspect) that are corrupted then you've probably already lost your settings. I would follow those directions and start over. It's better than running without the firewall.

    All right, I have followed the instructions and reset EZ Firewall and then rebooted. I have no more errors with TrueVector. However, I notice in my event log a warning.

    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: Viewpoint Manager Service
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 0
    Date: 7/26/2007
    Time: 7:52:13 PM
    Description:
    The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Viewpoint Manager Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Service started.
    Apparently this warning has appeared after each start-up but I was not aware of it until now. Viewpoint is a pre-installed media player that I never use. I wasn't sure if it was a driver of some sort so I didn't uninstall it.

    And while on topic of the TrueVector Service, I used to use ZoneAlarm before EZ Firewall and it also uses that tool called "vsmon.exe". I did uninstall ZA but I found a ZoneLabs folder in my system32 folder just now. Would the two vsmon.exe in my system eventually cause trouble? Is it safe to delete the folder?

    It should be OK to delete it, but you might want to try moving that folder to another location (another drive if possible) and rebooting to see if it has any effect. If not, go ahead and delete it, if you get an error you can at least put it back until you can figure out what to do next.

    All right, I am having the same problems again today. I guess it's time to switch to the free AVG.

    As well? AVG and AVAST are anti-virus though, not firewalls. If I uninstall my EZ Armor, I will have no firewall. It sucks that Windows 2000 doesn't have its own firewall like XP does.

    No way, not Zone Alarm again. That program also uses the TrueVector thing that I'm having trouble with now.

    Try the Comodo firewall. I gave up on Zone Alarm long ago - too many conflicts with other software and in some cases huge performance hits for no reason. All traced back to Zone Alarm (removed Zone Alarm, removed the problems). Comodo is light, fast, passes all the GRC tests, and is very similar to Sygate Personal Firewall in the way it operates and the information it gives. And it's free. Leaves Zone Alarm for dead.
