Hey guys,
I've read several posts about performance slow down on DVD/CD burners in Windows XP. In fact, I've had that problem on my old computer, and had to make the registry changes for it to be fixed (that method worked great).
However, I have a new problem. I am currently using Windows Vista Home Premium with a HP 740b burner, I have 3 Ghz of processor speed, and 1 GB of RAM.
While this problem isn't devastating, it is irritating. I have a 16X burner, and am utilizing 16X Memorex DVD+R media. Everytime I burn something, it only acknowledges that 12X is available. I've never seen 16X as an option.
Are there any tricks within Windows Vista that I can use similar to the XP registry fix that would allow me to utilize the full capability of my DVD-Burner (16X)?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Tyler

some burners will not burn the media at its rated speed due to compatibility. you could try a firmware upgrade or a write code patch. you can find these at cdfreaks ive run into this before. you can use tools at their site to change the write strategies but i would only use the recommended ones otherwise you might get coasters

The speed difference between 12x and 16x is like what? ... about 1 or 2 minutes at best? Something like that.
It is often better to burn 16x media at 12x even when the burner is capable of 16x burning.
Note that Memorex can be almost any media ... historically speaking they have always used whatever is the cheapest stuff they can buy ... which means you never know what you may get in any given batch.
Apparently the batch you bought is of a media that your burner can only burn at 12x speed. Be happy your burner is smart enough to NOT attempt 16x burning when it knows that it won't work.
There are many different programs out there that can tell you the Media Code or ID of your blank Memorex discs. You might want to check that out and post here.
