IOWs I authored a DVD with about 40 short clips as seperate titles. My intent was to play sequentially or be able to choose from the menu pages.
Due to a error on my part in choices, I authored it to return to the main menu after any clip was played.
Do I need to copy everything back to the hard drive and Re-Author or is there a easy fix. If I copy everything back then I to start from scratch, add the 40 clips, add the clip titles etc.
Thanks for any suggestions and help.

If you did not save the project, you are back to the beginning and have to rebuild. If you saved the project and still have the video files on the hard drive, just change the setting to 'jump to next title' in the post track setting and create a new iso.

you should be able to use ifoedit or pgcedit to redo the layout. However these programs are not what I would call point and click easy. THey do take a bit to figure out and I'm no expert on them by any means.
Other than that you could rerip it to the computer and use a program that reads vob files directly like tmpgenc dvd author. Then you simply reauthor the disc without chopping it up again.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Well I did save the project, sadly before testing I erased the source as I had backed them up to DVD. Now I'd have to figure out wher eto put them back on more than on directory and drive so the saved project would work.
The other suggestion would also work as I still have the authored on the computer. But then I have to bring in 40 or so titles and change the names for each one to match teh contents.
Oh well life, is never easy!
Thanks for the help. -
What authoring program are you using? Just rip the dvd into a spefified folder, delete the old video from the saved program, enter from the newly created folder and make sure to check the 'play next title' in the post command and create the iso. At least you don't have to rebuild the menu.
You don't have to rip to the same location as the saved program, just take the saved file and relink to the newly ripped folder. -
I used TDA3 as it gave me simple menu with room for the title names at the length I wanted to be descriptive.
I have TDA1.5 too.
I don't do super fancy in the main a simple motion menu or motion thumbnails or both or even static menus are fine for most of my needs. I just don't have to time to learn n all kinds of new software in general. Bewtween Family chores and work I value my free time at home highly.
I don't have to rip it I still have the output folder on the F: drive. That is the drive I use to hold output DVDs and scratch files. When it starts to get full I go through and elete old things. I have a couple of older ones there now and maybe 130Gb free.
I guess the part I'm mising where you say just take the saved file and relink to the newly ripped folder. I think I can open up a instance of TDA3 and TDA1.5 and cut and paste title names after sdding the videos. The problem as I see it is because I make it 40 titles I have to go through 40 additions again?
Thanks -
I see. If you had created one movie using chapter points instead of 40 clips the work wouldn't amount to much.
-
Yup if it was one title with chapters I could just import as a DVD with chapter points kept and be almost done. I did it this way as I wanted main menu titles rather one one title and then chapters. If I hadn't screwed up this one the play all button would work or I could pick a title. IF I also hadn't picked the action to return to the main menu after play it would have stayed on the menu page I played from and that would have been Ok too. Serves me right for being in a rush to finish and not paying atention to detail.
However it is 40 different clips made over a period of time. Some going back to my VCD days... So they have varying resolutions and bitrates. I think one was even a SVCD that I patched theheader, added and unpatched. Which procedure works on my players. And TDA 1.5 or TDA3 both will encode the audio to AC3 so I can add VCDs as well as DVD legal and so on.
My players even play DVB resolution captures by patching and unpatching after I add them. I do that to avoid re-encoding a mpg2 stream. -
Your question keeps me thinking, I get compulsive that way. Trying reading this link http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=253550 . It appears to me you should be able to edit the jump command within ifoedit and reburn.
It might take you just as long to figure out what you are doing within ifoedit as to redo the 40 tracks, but at least you will develope a better understanding of what is happening in the process which will lead to quicker author times in the future.
