This is my first post to the forum, so here it goes..

I have a dvd-r that was recorded for me from a standalone recorder.

The DVD has a slight stutter to it. It's like it slows down for a frame every 20 seconds or so.

It is NTSC from a NTSC laser so I don't think it's a PAL conversion thing.

I suspect cheap media. My question is?

Can this movie be fixed? I don't have access to the original or the person who made it.

I tried copying just the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter but this lag is still present on the copy.

Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I would say that the video is damaged not the disc, you could try to repair the video with FixVTS.
BTW..have you tried the disc on your PC or another player?

    Thanks for your response.

I have tried the DVD on my computer.

I don't have another player handy. I will try however.

The reason I suspected the media was that I have several DVDs

made by the same person with the same problem.

    Thanks in advance

    I did try FixVTS

It seemed like it wasn't as severe but, then it started skipping

    and freezing.

    Thanks again for your response.

  5. Test the DVD in Nero CD-DVD Speed ->Disc Quality,if it has >200PIE(max) and >20PIF(max) then the disc is bad..also run ScanDisc and look for any red sectors.
There are still alot of possibilities:
    1.Media quality
    2.Writer quality
3.The way it was encoded and authored
    4.Player compatibility

    Thanks for your reply.

I ran the Nero CD-DVD speed test you advised.

If I'm reading these results correctly, my disc is way past bad and close to evil.

This brings me back to my question, can this be fixed or saved?

Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

That disc has past evil and gone straight to hell,I recommend better media such as Verbatim.

    Thanks for your reply.

I didn't record it. I'm just trying to save it.

    Perhaps I haven't been clear.

I have extracted the movie from the disc illustrated above onto my HD using

    DVDFabDecrypter.

I burned the resulting video folder from my HD onto a new DVD-R using Nero.

It still has the the problems of the original.

So far I have tried FixVTS which seemed to help some problems and cause others.

I do not have the laser disc this was recorded from so I can't remaster onto a better media.

I'm stuck with this as the master. I'm open to suggestions from the floor...

I currently have a spindle of SONY DVD-R but I will try some Verbatim

if you think it will help.

Thanks again for your advice and this great forum!
