I usually save DVD Shrink to a D:/Movie folder. So after it analyzes and encodes it, I take out the orginal movie and insert a dvd-r. Then I "open folders" and go to that D:/Movies file to pull up the extracted data. Then it asks me for another save folder (don't know why) and doesn't allow me to save it in the same folder. what is it trying to do?
I know if you have two dvd burners, then it doesn't matter that you save it to one dfolder. IT just analyzes, encodes nad burns in one step when you have two burners. Its when you have one burner that it does that.

are you trying to burn your dvd? when you click backup, rather than select an output folder, you need to either create and .iso and burn it with decrypter, or if you have nero you can choose to burn with it.

yah i am trying to burn my extracted movie files. I guess I was confused since I usually use DVD Shrink to analyze encrypt and burn all in one.If I use Nero to burn the movie, do I burn as ISO file or just as data?
-
With Nero, I use the 'DVD-Video' option in Nero Burning ROM and take the contents of my VIDEO_TS folder and place them in the VIDEO_TS folder Nero shows.
But ImgBurn is a lot easier. Just use 'Build' mode, select the VIDEO_TS folder Shrink has created and burn. You can have Shrink create a ISO file and burn with that also, but that just adds an extra step that seems unnecessary. -
personally, i like to create the .iso file, that way i can double-click it and it will automatically launch the default burning software.

if u burn an iso file in Nero (I think only Nero Express has iso burn, not Nero Burning ROM right?) does ti play in a standard DVD player? I couldnt find it in Nero Rom.

Of course you guys know that you can set DVD Shrink to burn with Nero or DVD Decrypter automatically from within DVD Shrink. When you click Backup! you'll see a dialog box with those options under the Target Device tab. No need to make it a separate manual operation in Nero or Decrypter unless you want to.

yes as long as you used shrink to create a correct dvd image, it will play just fine.

ToolFool,
So when I select "open folder" and open up the extracted files (that I had extracted earlier), now I want to burn these files onto a dvd-r. I can use DVD Shrink in the above picture that p_l has. When I select the "Burn with Nero" (like one he has checked) it is usually the time it asks me to create a different folder than the D:\Movies I have on "Select folder for temporary files" It wont let me override the same folder.
Are you saying I need to go under "Create ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter" if I wanna read the extracted files to burn? Why won't the "Burn with Nero" work? -
it will work, thats what he was saying... you can choose to create a folder, an .iso image, or simply have nero burn it for you (providing you have nero installed).. there really is no need to create an output file is you choose to burn with nero

So what is the difference b/t "burn with Nero" and "Create Iso image file" and burn with DVD Decrypter (the 2nd choice)?
I clicked "burn with Nero" but it wont let me do it. It somehow wants me to create a different named folder than the existing D:/Movies that I am reading it from. -
Since this is getting confusing (At least to me.
), I'll try it this way:
To burn a ISO with Nero Burning ROM, select 'Recorder>Burn Image.
Newer versions of Nero Burning ROM won't burn automatically with Shrink. I believe Nero 6.0 on don't work directly. But you can still burn the ISO image file or VIDEO_TS folder you saved to your hard drive.
DVD Decrypter can burn directly with Shrink. But Decrypter may not work will all newer DVD drives. If it does with yours, use it to burn automatically with Shrink. In Shrink preferences, uncheck 'Burn with Nero' and you will see a new menu when Shrink is finished. It should show your burner and have the choice of burn to file or to your burner directly. It will just ask you to put a disc in your drive if you only have one drive.
ImgBurn is a updated version of Decrypter. It has only the burning engine, much improved over Decrypter, but it doesn't decrypt DVDs. There were versions of DVD Shrink that could automatically burn with ImgBurn, but they were withdrawn.
Whether you make a ISO or burn from a VIDEO_TS folder, the results will be the same, as the file is the same, just wrapped in a ISO container. ImgBurn can use either format. DVD Decrypter only ISO. The advantage with a ISO is that it is a single file, good for archiving.
Does that help a little? -
Ok, that does explain it better.
Here are the steps I do in DVD Shrink. I open dvd, it analyzes, encodes and I place it in a D:/Movie folder. The dvd burner opens when it is done and asks me to place a media dvd-r into it to burn. If I cancel it and come back later, click on "open folders" to select the extract vob files (using DVD Shrink) it wont let me "burn with Nero" If I try that, it says "the folder you specified is the same as your source folder. Please select a different folder" Then I have to rename it to something like D;/Movies1 or something. Just wondering what I am doing wrong. It seems to create the same files again before burning. -
If you don't plan to burn it right after running Shrink, then I can think of at least two options:
If you open the VIDEO_TS folder Shrink created, you can drop those contents into NERO Burning ROMs red VIDEO_TS folder when you have selected to create a 'DVD-Video'.
Or in this case creating a ISO file with Shrink may be simpler. Then you use the 'Recorder>Burn Image' method with Nero. But, even easier if you have DVD Decrypter installed is to right click on the ISO that Shrink created and chose 'Burn with DVD Decrypter. Or if you have ImgBurn installed, it may give you the option to 'Burn with ImgBurn. I would recommend ImgBurn.
Just to mention, I believe you need to have DVD Decrypter installed before you install Shrink so Shrink will have it as a option to burn.
The problem you are having with Nero is probably just a Nero 'quirk' with it's file naming and file locations.
Also, I should add, Nero may create a temp file to feed the data to the burner, that may be part of what it's doing. Again, just how Nero handles files. -
ok, i do have both nero and dvd decrypter installed. so maybe its just nero getting tied up in reading the file names?

Just speculating about why Nero requires two separate locations: Perhaps first it makes the VIDEO_TS folder, then it makes an .ISO from that, and that's what it burns. Seems like an unnecessary extra step, but then Nero has become a bloated epitome of unnecessary extra steps; case in point: Nero SmartStart. But perhaps it's some other kind of temp file like redwudz says.
