Greeting again, fellow computer users, I'm here for a solution for another problem.

I seem to have this very consistent problem where both the Internet and the phone line keep going down during the afternoon, and can last for hours at a time, some days it never even comes back. And usually when it does come back, it's only for a few minutes then it just goes back down again.

I'm using a Vonage device, and the Internet connection I have is Road Runner withInternet Explorer.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I had this problem once. Turns out the actual phone line going to the house was frayed somehow. The phone company had to replace that part of the cable.

It was maddening becuase I was on dial up back then and at times I wouldn't be able to connect or if I could I'd be on for five minutes and then get booted for no apparent reason.

You should have a service call to check the physical line condition.

I had a modem that wouldn't hang up that could do this - I had to physically disconnect the phone line each time to restore the dial tone. If you have nothing on the line when you pick up the phone after using the internet: This may be the source.

Other than that: Call your phone company, I think most of them are responsible up to the box on the house.

I would contact Roadrunner first and verify the broadband connection is working correctly. Chances are your VOIP service will work correctly once the internet connection issues are resolved.

Well, someone just came from Time Warner today, and they examined the situation.

He said that the connectors on the outside of the house were very old and were corroding, so he replaced them with some new ones, so hopefully it won't happen again for a while.

Well, the issue isn't quite as severe as it once was, but there still seems to be some problems.

Before it would be continuously off for the whole day, but now the line will just randomly go off and on throughout the day in cycles.

So it's not as big of a problem as it once was, but it's still pretty annoying.

I had the problem of dropped phone line and it wasn't solved until the local phone company upgraded their lines. The signal was too noisy to maintain contact and only new telephone lines really solved the problem.
I thought Roadrunner was cable TV based and phone lines shouldn't effect it?

  9. The problem kerrex_2006 is having is with his internet connection. He Is using Vonage VOIP for his phone service. I would call Road Runner and have them come back again.

  10. Did the repair man go up to the top end of the line to the house? IOWs I had TV but no cable modem.

Tech that seemed to know what he was doing and had decent equipment came out. Tested the line levels at the house and found them to be low. He replaced both ends of the drop with watertight connectors, removed the filter that they used to use to limit channels received and signal levels came up. Cable modem started working nice and fast. I went in after the work was done, tested, all was good. He didn't even have to come in the house.

Of course I had done my homework and diagnostics before even calling. It was a new install.

My install method, Take the supplied splitter, go to where the cable feed came off of the pole. Split one line to TV other line a fresh run using the supplied cable from the self install kit to their modem. When I explained the my process to the service center when I called, no other test this and test that was required, he said you've done it all and scheduled a repairman. I then explained my install method to the repairman he said it has to be out here then. Pulled out the meter hooked it up direct to the drop and the low levels were found.

20 minutes later I was running 5 to 7 times faster than my old 3Mb DSL.

So important thing to do is make sure only the one splitter to the cable modem or it will have problems. Have them come out and check signal levels. Make sure it is outside the house problem as they will sock it to you for internal wiring problem.

Your phone problem is because of your Internet connection. You mentioned Vonage. Vonage needs a working Internet connection. If the Internet goes out then Vonage phone servce will be out too.

If he only changed the ones at the house and not at the pole then he was being lazy and hopeful that would cure the problem. As you can see he did half the job.

As a sidenote now that the cable service repairs have been done my TV can now get the local HD channels off of cable.
