  2. You can burn a mkv file as data to a dvd disk... but this will not be playable on a standalone as far as I know...

To create a dvd for a standalone player I use the 'normal' tools: avisynth and ffdshow.
Ffdshow to be able to 'read' the mkv file and Avisynth to create the file to load into the mpg2-encoder (ie HC, TMpgEnc).
I always treat the audio seperately

    Example avs:
    directshowsource("myfile.mkv",audio=false)
    ...

Hope this will get you started

    Good luck...

There is a cheap n cheerful option

The "ever-popular" ConvertXtoDVD accepts MKV files and does all the hard work for you

Ideal if quality is not relevant and you don't have the time/patience/knowledge to use the 'normal' tools as above

    (No disrespect intended to babiulep)
    Don't worry.......we'll be alright...

MKV files are 'hairy' the cause lots of problems can be hard to work with

run it thru gspot an get the info, IS what size is the video resolution,if it its HD, convertx is not going to handle it,

try either super OR mkv extract, super might convert it ot mpeg2 whic you can then convert to DVD

or you can try MKV extract to get/extract the video stream & sound stream from the MKV container, then convert them with another tool

it either way it is likely to involve several steps to go from mkv to DVD

    Yes, ConvertXtoDVD.

But this is not any DVD backuping. Moving you to the conversion forum.
