Ive got the latest version and read all the forum posts similar to this problem and done all that has been suggested and this problem continues. Whenever i start to convert an avi file to dvd i get either ffm.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close after a minute or two or i get a complete crash of my pc and need to restart. Ive had this same problem with a number of different programs such as winavi, avitodvd and tmpgenc. i got this software as it seems to be the best however ive paid my £20 and its not working. Any help would be much appreciated.

the reading on my temp gauge on my tower is 26C -
ok. How old is your PC. Can you post your log file of that run please?

Also - here is a simple test: install and run this:
http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm
if that doesn't run for an hour without crashing your PC - you have overheating problems. Either due to overclocking/lack of cooling or plain old dust.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Well overclocking is forcing your cpu to run at higher speeds then the stock speed. If you didn't know this then it is unlikely to be the case for you. As your PC is 5 years old and ORTHOS bombs so early - i would put my mortgage on the fact that you need to vacumn out your PC. Pop the lid, vacumn the dust - carefully - and pay particular attention the the case fan and cpu fan/heatsink.
If that doesn't solve it then the next thing to look at is corrupt RAM...SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

actually the problem is still occurring now its just taking longer for it to happen, how would i know if my ram is corrupt? or can you think of any other reasons why this is happening to me ?

one or two ram testers:

but i would say that if cleaning has improved things (i.e delayed the crash) i would focus on that being the solution... How long does ORTHOS run now? (FYI: it will run forever on my & most peoples PCs)SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
