I have been out of burning cds and dvds for over 18 months now. I just wanted to be updated with what is going on, and how fast things have been advancing. I still have a 16x dvd burner and 90% of my media are 8x verbatims that i stocked up on.

Are 12x or 16x media cheap now? How mainstream are they now?

Are printable media getting any cheaper?

How far along are DL media, growing or declining.

What is the fastest dvd burner speed now?

    Sorry about the many questions.

Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony media are good.

Burn no faster than 12x on any disc, or the max disc rating, whichever is slowest.

Inkjet discs are about 35 cents each.

DL media is about $1-2 each, only use Verbatim.

18x is the fastest, but the "x" speed is misleading. A 12x burn is about 6-7 minutes, a 16x burn about 5-6 minutes, a 18x burn also about 5-6 minutes. Even 8x was 7-8 minutes. You gain almost no time, and you risk quality of the burn.

Up to 8x, but you're best with a 4x-6x burn.
