    hi all.

    i hope somebody can help me. i have several files of divX 511.AC3 which i need to reedit, but when i import into vegas, it shows only the video file. No audio is imported. vlc definitely plays the video and audio, so both tracks are obviously there, but why won't vegas?

    am using vegas 7a.

    thanks!

    vegas will only import an ac3 file if it is in a mpeg file

    divx is not really a format for editing anyway

    I suggest using VirtualDub to save a WAV file of your audio and then import that separately. Watch out for synch issues.

    ok, virtual dub made a WAV copy of the audio track in stereo, but vegas won't recognise it. i've tried other WAV files in vegas, and they all work fine. vegas imports it to the project media bin, but won't allow it to be previewed, played or dragged to the timeline. any ideas?

    Did you drag it onto it's own audio layer? It won't overwrite your original audio. You have to mute the original audio track and place the WAV file underneath it on it's own audio layer. (unless you delete the orginal audio)

    You'll be playing two audio files at once. One muted and one not.

    Otherwise... make sure the WAV plays in media player. It should be a vaild WAV but make SURE.

    i tried to drag the WAV onto the timeline but it comes up with a crossed circle, indicating no-can-do. i did mute the video's audio track, and then added a new audio layer, but the WAV still won't be added.

    the WAV plays in win media player and vlc, so its definitely valid, but not in vegas.

    Are you sure it's actually a wav, and not AC3 inside a wav container ? Try opening it in g-spot to confirm.

  8. VirtualDub:

    File -> Open Video File
    Audio -> Full Processing Mode
    File -> Save WAV

    Otherwise you'll get AC3 in a WAV container.

    I have found, at least with virtualdubmod, that you should also click on Uncompressed PCM to make sure you do get what you think you are getting

    ok, tried g-spot, yes its an ac3 in WAV container. (thanks for that tip!)

    then, followed jagabo's instructions, only for vdub to tell me "no audio decompressor can be found to decompress source audio format". is there some kind of ac3 codec plug-in for vegas, virtualdub or another standalone decoder?

    i'm using virtualdub 1.6.18.

    thanks for all this help everybody...

    AC3 ACM Decompressor or AC3filter should do the trick for virtualdub

    haha... it works!

    after installing ac3 acm decompressor, vegas suddenly recognises the audio track of the divX and now plays both the video and audio. thank you all for your help. much appreciated, hope i can return the favour someday...
