Convert .m2ts?

I got a new HD camera (Panasonic HDC-SD1) and it saves files in either .MTS or .m2ts format, and I need to convert these to something so that I can edit them, but so far I can't find a simple way to do it. No program will even read the files.

It's not so much the converting as it is the capturing..
There are a few programs available now that will capture HD..
I believe Pinnacle Studio 11 does so. There are some others..
Your ahead of the curve , I'm afraid..
Most people with HD shoot in SD "for the moment"...
Don't try to "convert" an HD video...It will look like CRAP....
Besides, you need a super=duper computer for HD........

I think you'll have to use an editor that handles AVCHD
They're shooting in HD but use the cam to downconvert for the moment until upgrading to the super-duper computer

Hm, seems like a lot of work. I think ill just take this back and get a HD camera that records to minidv or something where I don't have to convert one file from another.

Canon HV20 is pretty decent and outputs plain ol' Mpeg2.

With any of the newer cameras, you'll always want to be careful about not panning too fast while shooting. Keeping the camera steady will make a big difference. Otherwise, you'll have to keep an airsickness bag nearby whenever you edit the footage.

Damn, thats $600 more than I spent (at bestbuy).. but I kind of want to get it now.
