It will work but 1440x1080i HDV will filter and encode slower than 720x480i DV. A dual core CPU would be a better match.

There are several choices at the $120 level including Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Movie Studio Premium or ULead Vido Studio Premium. Look for HDV compatibility and if 24p is important, read the reviews for each program carefully. You may need the full Premiere or Vegas.

Just processing slowness and a "sticky" timeline. You will have more difficulty scrubbing or searching the timeline unless you decompress or move up to a digital intermediate format like Cineform. If you have experience with these programs, its similar to the sluggisness of MPeg2 but more so.

You can get started with your current machine. I just ran a test with Vegas on a P4 2.4GHz machine using HDV 720p settings. A one minute encode of HDV 720p to HDV 720p took 5 minutes. 720p HDV to 480p MPeg2 took ~16 minutes

    Same 1min 720p test on a Core2Duo E6300 took 89sec for HDV-HDV and 84sec 720p HDV to 480p MPeg2.

There's a bunch of other stuff running on these machines so process times are approximate.

I think you need a dual core processor upgrade first.

There are many forums. DMN might be a place to start.
