SeVCD on Apex AD-500w

Hey Sefy,

I must say, I really dig your SeVCD codecs. It compressed the movie Return of the Living Dead (87 minutes) down to 622mb, and it looks near standard VCD. I'm betting the blockiness comes from me setting the max bitrate down to 850(I think that was it).

Anyway, I popped it in my Apex, and of my tests (I haven't watched it all the way through) it works fine, but there's one flaw:

Time codes.

They're way off. It reads it as 61 minutes, even though the whole 87 will play. Then again, since SeVCD is meant to fit a whole movie one disc, so there's no disc changes, it's obviously not meant to be used to skip around on the movie.

This might be more due to the way it's multiplexed and authored...

I'll let someone currently doing this handle particulars (I've abandoned SeVCD in favor of VBR SVCD's long ago), but I can tell you this...

Try multiplexing the VCD with bbMPEG, and burning with a VCDImager frontend instead of NERO or similar. TSCV works well, burning with CDRWIN.

I can also say that as far as timecodes, I think they may be off anyway on VCD, even doing this... but like I said before I'm rusty.

I know Apex machines have trouble beyond 99 minutes... and on my SVCD's the format only allows for chaptering and timecode up to 100 minutes and no more (limitation of SVCD format), though it plays through.

Try re-multiplexing using bbMPEG, and burning this way. If you need help otherwise, hopefully someone will come by who is less rusty...

justinc79, i'm glad to hear you find SeVCD usefull to your purposes, as for what you mentioned, basicly it's something I can't test since my Pioneer 525 doesn't show me anything but PBC PLAY, so I don't see the time at all.

I think the fact you used 850kbps on the VBR is what did the drastic reduction of the size, I would more suggest you to try and atleast fit the movie int oa 74min or 80min, and boost up the BItrate instead of reducing it.

That way you will both take advantage of the entire size of your CD and will gain quality, and maybe even less blocks.

I had to set it down to 850kbps... it was about 144 mb too big any other way

Justin, if you got the movie down to 622mb, you got extra 118mb atleast to burn it on a 74min CDR, and 178mb extra if you burn it on a 80min CDR

Just thought I'd mention something in my defense. I'm only 14. Most kids my age don't even know what a VCD is Well, except the ones that I've educated.

hehehe, well, I know what you mean, heck, propably 80% of Israeli's dont' know what VCD is
