Hi I am new to this site, just found it. Have searched for my problem but because I am New at this I still have so much to learn. I am frustrated. I have downloaded a vcr tape that I want to pull the music from to put on a CD. When downloading the music it sounds fine but when I edit it it sounds tinny noicey really bad quality so I cant use it on a CD. I have a pinnacle program that I use. This I installed because I needed the capture devise. Is there a program out there that can fix the audio problem. A simple one for a learner. Thank you J Lee

If you are interested in sound only from your tape you do not need capture card. Connect sound cables only to your sound card input and download music only. You can use sound card software for that. Most sound cards provide basic recording software. Use Line In. You may need short cable which connect two RCA sound plugs from your VCR to one stereo 1/8" or so plug for your sound card LineIn input.
If you have Nero or Roxio they also have sound recording feature. Both Nero and Roxio also have some sound editing software.
There are software to clean audio, but if it is really bad it will be no use.

I need to view the tape as I edit. There are different players with their names that I need to see inorder to know what songs to copy.

You can still view with the pinnacle software while capturing only to your sound card.

Check out free audacity software to capture audio.

    Ok. Try this software (free)
    http://www.download.com/Audacity/3000-2170_4-10058117.html
But I would still try to get good quality for start.
You can watch you tape on TV and write down the songs you like, than download only those.
However Pinnacle should be able to capture good quality video and sound.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I got so frustrated that I went to my HP help then audio. Found a problem similar to what I was experiancing and found that my audio driver was not installed. Once I installed it all is fine. Just telling this so in the future if someone has this problem they will know what to do.
