    Hi all.

I have a problem that has me stumped.

I have been trying to connect my VCR to my computer so I can convert and save some old videos. I have done this in the past with my existing card and computer, although I am using a different VCR, and I have been successful, but it has been several years and I don't remember the exact configuration I used.

This time, I am getting no audio at all through the connection, and I have tried every configuration I can think of. I have followed the directions for my video card exactly. The only other difference I can think of is that, this time, I do not have an actual connection to a TV cable or antenna, just the VCR, but I don't know if that would be the problem.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro and an Athlon processor. As stated, I have done this successfully in the past, but it won't work for me now. If anyone here has any ideas I can try or knows of an article or a post that addresses this problem here, I would appreciate the advice. I have a slow dial-up connection and am not really able to go through every post here.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Usually, you connect your VCR audio out to your audio card input with a stereo RCA to a 1/8" stereo mini plug and use that. You have to also make sure your audio card is set for 'line in' and the level turned up.

If your audio goes through your video card instead, then you would have to check the manual for the card to determine the settings.

But one place you might check for ATI capture settings is lordsmurf's site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/capture/index.htm

    And welcome to our forums.

    Thanks, redwudz

My ATI card comes with a little doodad that plugs into the IN on the video card and on the other end has a jack that basically has the female plug-ins for the VCR cords (video, left and right audio) and it worked before but doesn't now. I'll try your fix for using the soundcard, maybe that'll work. And thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

That idea of running directly to the soundcard worked nicely - thanks again. It never occurred to me to hook directly into that, although it makes perfect sense now that I do know about it. Still puzzles me why the original method using the ATI card exclusively doesn't work now Oh well - at least it works now.

First the card has to be connected to the soundcard, either externally or interanlly. The AIW's come with a cord to do it externally. You can alos do as Redwudz suggested and bypass the card capture card altogether and connect the audio directly to soundcard.

Second whatever input (line-in,mic,aux ...etc) you are using on the soundcard has to be enabled in the soundcards configration.

Third you have to configure MMC to use that input.
