I'm really not sure what is going on here but I seem to have a strange problem.

When I play certain AVI files (DivX or XviD, I'm not sure which), during playback the upper-right corner will get blocky for a second and then go back to normal. The blockyness is strange because it seems to start in the upper-right and move diagonally towards the center.

Here is a drawing of what happens: (the red area is the blocky area)

I've re-installed Windows XP and have ONLY installed the official XviD codec (which decodes DivX as well).

I also have an nVidia 8800 GTX with the latest drivers but I don't know if that matters.

The problem is also strange because it doesn't happen on all files... it seems to be completely random.

typical of downloaded movies of the type CAM or TS or "screeners" in recent times -- an attempt to cover up the watermark on the film to show where it came from ..... though this is not the only way films are tagged.

    Thanks for the reply!

However, I don't download any hollywood movies of any type. The movies I'm talking about are of the adult kind

I don't think any of those movies have any watermarks... Also, I can't be certain of this, but it seems like the problem started when I bought my nVidia 8800 GTX card.

    maybe it's not "watermarks"

try another video card or a different version of drivers for it -- or a different compatible codec (remove or disable the one you are currently using)

Heh... they "watermarks" definitely aren't "censor-bars"... you can clearly see what is underneath or whatever.

I can try to record a 5 minute clip with Fraps and upload it somewhere... (don't worry, I'll find something clean...)

    5 minute clip isn't much good - if it's an"adult" video upload a 90 minute clip
