I currently have a modified XBOX with a 120 gig drive inside that I use to store old movies and video series... I love it because I can add and remove files easily via FTP from my PC which allows me to review and assemble complete series before I take the time to burn them permanently to DVD.
I just took vacation to my Nephews house who had TIVO and I am hooked. I want to take the plung...
I am looking for a solution which would offer me the same features he had with Tivo (auto recording shows etc...) along with the ability to perform the functionality of my XBOX. It would also be nice if the shows captured via this device could be easily uploaded to my PC and burned to DVD etc.... I may someday move to HDTV so I would like this purchase to be the first HDTV capable device.
Can someone reccomend devices and a place to start reading? I heard a generation 2 Tivo can be easily moded to perform all of these task except the HDTV???

You also can check out ReplayTV at www.avsforum.com , It is like Tivo but better.

Thanks, I'll look into ReplayTV. I hope it's more flexible than Tivo especially in regards to adding storage capacity etc...
