I was just wondering, I'm an ametuer video maker, and have been using Windows Movie Maker 1 for my videos, and recently I've been thinking of taking the video productions up one.
I've heard people say stuff about Adobe Premiere, and have been interested in using it, but there's a problem.... I'm a little hesitent, thinking that if I download Adobe Premiere on my computer, it might cause some problems, so I haven't downloaded it yet.
So as I was saying, is there anything important I need to know about regarding Adobe Premiere before I start using it? Like what kind of video files it works with (aka FLV, WMV, AVI, etc.) and what kinds of advanages Adobe Premiere has over Windows Movie Maker 1?

But Premiere Elements won't work on some older computers because of a compatibility issue with the processor.
Premiere Pro is very expensive compared to Elements, so it might be worth getting hold of a cheap Premiere Elements 2 disc if you can find it on ebay (I got versions 2 and 3 for a nice bargain price on there).
If I had to choose, I'd go for Elements 2 rather than 3, as it does most of what I need it for, including DVD authoring.
And you can't do this with Windows Movie Maker - http://www.jiggyjigg.com/upload/files/9/FExpt%20444.wmv -
Permiere is probably overkill for your needs. Why not start with something that is a step or two up from Movie Maker, but with a reasonable cost and the specs of your hardware.
Options to consider would include
Ulead VideoStudio
Adobe Premiere Elements
Vegas Movie Studio
If you want to go up to the big boys, then you should serious consider doubling your current level of ram and adding at least one large HDD to your system. With that you could then consider Premiere, Vegas (my favourite) or Ulead MovieStudio ProRead my blog here.
