    Dear Friends

I've recorded some videos from the Internet using SnagIt 7, but after a while --weeks-- they seem to drop out of my computer. They just disappear.

I've been trying to figure out whether a) they are formatted by the posters in such a way that one simply can't preserve them as a permanent file, or b) whether I have neglected to process them in such a way as to make them permanent. OR maybe their is something wrong with my computers (laptop and desktop).

    What do you think?

    Regards,

    Jack

This is not an analog capturing issue. Moving you.

Is it just the snagit recordings that disappear?

Define "disappear". Do you mean you can't find them using Windows Explorer and/or Search, or that they no longer appear in Recent Documents?

(I know it's a basic question, but it has to be asked.)

Not possible or you couldn't have captured them in the first place.

Highly unlikely. Such an ability to not make files permanent wouldn't make Snagit very useful, would it?

Yes, this is certainly possible. Your disk drive on your PC could be going bad, you could be accidentally deleting the files without realizing it, and so on.

Files last forever until deleted, or there is a hardware failure. Or Windows crashes and loses them (usually then it loses a lot of stuff, so you'd notice.)

If there was a way to make files self-destruct, you could sell this method to some media companies for a great deal of money. They've been trying to do this for years.

Do you keep them in a specific folder? With distinct names?
One obvious workaround is to copy them to a DVD. I'd be impressed if a file could delete itself from a DVD.

Some protection can be given if you use Explorer, select the files, right-click, select "properties"; select "read only". Then you should get a warning if something tries to delete them. This can be overridden easily, though.

Is it possible that you are saving them in a cache that periodically gets cleared out?
