I found this forum using Google and I'm pretty sure I've come to the right place to get some answers! I'm completely new at this.

I have 11 AVI files and 250 JPGs (total of all about 2GB) that I would like to turn into a DVD that can be used on PCs and consumer type DVD players. I used the search feature first but couldn't find a relevant article.

Where do I begin? Assume I know nothing - its a good place to start.

    Thanks,

    Phil

Easiest would be to use an all-in-one dvd authoring tool like Tmpgenc DVD Author 3, Ulead DVD Moviefactory or Ulead DVD Workshop. You can add the avis and make a slideshow from jpgs.

First - The file size of your source mtrl, when making a Video DVD is irrelevant. Only length (in time) matters. You can fit about 2 hours of good quality video on a single layer DVD.
Encode each AVI to DVD specs MPG. See guides left under CONVERT for AVI to DVD. You may have to use different methods and/or approaches for each AVI, as AVI is just a "wrapper" format, that can contain many different kinds of video and audio.
Author as Video DVD with a good authoring app like TDA.
Your stills are best treated with some slide show application, like ProShow or MS PhotoStory 3. Even MovieMaker can be used to "convert" stills into a video (export as DV AVI) which then can be converted to DVD format mpg.
