I have a few movies on my HDD that won't fit on a DVD-5 without MAJOR compression, like 40+%. Is there a way to split them from where they are for burning, or will I have to re-rip, and split them at that point?
    Thanks!

    There is a way
You can use VobBlanker (free), TMPGEnc DVD Author or Mpeg Video Wizard DVD, last two are also authoring software. No ripping they are already on HD.
If you split it you will have to reauthor other half to play when inserted into the player.
If you want to use computer only, than it does not matter.
I would go and spend money on dual layer DVD, much easier.
Even to get Dual layer burner in US, less than $40.
Than use ImgBurn to burn dual layer DVDs, good software (free-donation if you wish)

  3. You can use DVDshrink with the start/stop function. That let you choose by the chapter. I have backup many two layer DVDs into two DVD5 this way.
