  1. This is basically the player I want,

It does everything I want it to and more, but it doesnt handle +DL discs. Anyone have personal experience with upconversion players that handle .TS / .TP files with Dual Layer discs?

I may be wrong, but I dont think anyone manufactures such a unit. To play HDTV movies/files (*.ts & *.tp) I believe has to be authored in Blu-Ray or HD-DVD and burned on compatible HD disc and played in compatible HD player.

  3. No there are players that can handle raw .TS/.TP files.

I like the MviX player, but you need an external USB DVD-Rom for disc playback. If im going to shell out 500$ (300$ for player + 100$ for external rom + 100$ for 320 gig drive) it might as well playback h.264 files, which the MviX player does not support. At 500$ I might as well buy a laptop and run Windows Media Center.

I really want to replace my modified XBOX with something small and quiet (the Apple TV device is not an option).

I am somewhat familiar with this player, although I don't have one. It's supposed to be a good one. Just because it doesn't explicity say it doesn't support DVD-DL doesn't mean it doesn't. You could look for a forum dedicated to this player and ask people who own it if DL support is OK. For best results with DL, always use only DVD+R DL by Verbatim. If you use anything else but DVD+R DL by Verbatim, you are asking to have problems.
