getting a m2v file instead of mpeg

i encoded a movie over night via mpeg2enc and things seemed to be working just fine. i woke up this morning to the file being finished and all i got was a .m2v file extension. is there soemthing that i am doing wrong?

I can play the movie in VLC, but no sound.

You got the mpeg video file, but not the audio file. Afterward, it would have hopefully muxed the two together. I've had this happen when my computer locked up for some reason and then re-did it to have success. However, with the specs of your equipment I kind of doubt it was a hardware problem unless you had a lot of other things running at the same time. Perhaps if you click the blue "i" in the progress bar for the info log and post the text here, someone will be able to decipher its output and provide a suggestion. What format were you starting with? An .avi or .mp4?
