  1. Does anyone know how to burn a dvd+rw from a ripped vob file that has ac3 sound. Every authoring sw I used reencodes the ac3 stream to normal stereo. So in fact I just want to put a ripped vob file on a dvd that I can play on a standalone dvd player. Just burning it as a data dvd seems not to work.

  2. Spruce Up would work if it was still available. It doesn't reencode the audio or video other than muxing to create the VOB files. Unfortunately Apple have stupidly dropped it when they took over Spruce Technologies.

The other budget packages do all encode to MPEG Layer II stereo except for MyDVD which chooses uncompressed PCM instead (not sure if V3 still does that but I suspect it does).

I'm afraid you'll need to shell out some cash for either DVDit from Sonic or DVD Virtuoso from Spruce/Apple. You might want to check out Roxio's Videopack 5 as I don't know what it does with AC3 files.
