I found a script that quickly repackages stuff to .mov, but I have not found such a script that does such repackages to .mp4.

I have some H.264 video (with 2-channel AAC audio) files in .mov format that I'd like to stick in an MP4 container. (I'd use these with the Xbox 360, since as of May it supports H.264 MP4 playback.)

I tried using both VLC's and QuickTime's passthrough .mp4 creation tools, but both failed. The .mov video plays fine in both VLC and QuickTime, but I can't seem to convert it to mp4 with either program for some reason.

If it matters, the video is about 10 Mbps, 1080p, and 100 minutes. It's about 7.2 GB, and was made with MPEG Streamclip. Is it simply too large? I tried a short conversion (a few hundred MB) from MOV to MP4 in QuickTime (using the passthrough option) and it worked fine.

iSquint or VisualHub should be able to handle it,
as well as ffmpegx, although I haven't tried it on ffmpegx,
    only iSquint and VisualHub.

Mpeg streamclip should be able to save your .mov as .mp4 without reencoding. Just choose 'save as' and 'mp4' for the container.
Also QTPro can do a passthrough of your h264 video and aac audio when you choose export movie.

    Hope this helps.

Hmmm... What are the settings in iSquint or VisualHub? I can't find any passthrough settings.

I tried QT Pro passthough and it didn't work (which is why I started this thread).

I tried MPEG Streamclip for passthrough after it was suggested here, but it also didn't work. I don't know why.

Sorry, I only answered the Conversion part...iSquint and VisualHub do not offer pass through options, only converting/transcoding options. For just creating .mov with passthrough,
    I'd try ffmpegx.

  6. VisualHub does have video/audio passthrough options in the "Extra ffmpeg Flags" drop down menus found in the Advanced window.

Cool. I'll have to try that VisualHub ffmpegX passthrough setting.

P.S. I think it may in fact be the file size. It won't work in VLC, QuickTime, or MPEG Streamclip if passed through as a single 7.2 GB file. I tried the same thing on another 7+ GB file, and it didn't work with that file either.

However, I tried exporting only half of it at a time and it worked just fine in QuickTime, for two 3.6 GB .mp4 files.
