Can you now record audio CDs as you can with a real 5005x?

Have you tried to swap out the drive with an All-Write drive to see if it will accept + and - discs?

I might do some experimenting with my Akai DVDRW 120 (Liteon 5001)....

  2. I have a ilo R04 and I had a 5005x
They are the same, In looks etc.. The drives are the same. The Firmware is different and limits the R04 to +R/RW disks, etc

When the Ilo R04 is hanged to a 5005x it becomes a 5005x in all ways
The same for the 5005x to a ilo R04
The R04 CAN be hacked for MV, region free, 3 hr mode.
The 5005x CANNOT be hacked [MV] but already is Allrite and has 3 hr

Either can be changed back and forth at will

The Files to do this are here
    http://www.ncc2315.com/ilo/

These files are the hacked version for the R04

I have not attempted this on any other unit than the R04 and 5005x
I do not think it will work on other than the R04 and 5005x
The Akai, while most likely a Liteon Clone, is not a 5005x or a liteon as to its firmware
The firmware name and itself could be a problem. If the unit should accept it the unit might stall and leave a door stop

    PS
I have not had any problems and have gone back and forth at least 25 times
Just make sure that Nothing Interrupts the Firmware Process

I used to change the R04 to a 5005x to burn -CD disks but use my 5045 at present

The Akai (as I understand it) will accept a Liteon 1176 hacked firmware directly, unlike the Daytek P-30 I hacked by changing the file names. I can get a used R04 to experiment with, so that might be an option. Thanks for the link....
